Time has ripened to accolade those energetic facets of women who are achievers in every sense amidst their various challenges within their family and in society. Thus, Ooruni Foundation initiated the first-ever recognition in 2018 for working women across India by presenting them with the Working Women Achiever Awards every year in commemoration of Women’s Day.
The Working Women Achiever Awards is a unique initiative to recognize and enhance working women on the vantage of Equal Opportunities. It is a premier award to accredit the achievements and progressive contributions of working women, including transgenders, at all levels in varied industries. Awards are given to outstanding women from Education, Manufacturing, IT & ITES, Service & Retail, Media & Entertainment, Government & Public Sector, Self-Employed & Start-up, and even from Unorganized Sectors.
In 2019, nominations were invited within a stipulated period, and it was heartening to witness the support extended by colleagues, family members, and friends who nominated the candidates. After validation of the nominations, awardees of each sector were unanimously decided by an elite panel of juries. Additionally, a book titled “100 Working Women Achievers” was released to admire the contributions of achievers apart from the awardees.
The first edition in 2018 awarded 50 women from various industries for their achievements, with the book released by Honourable High Court Judge, Justice Mr. R. Mahadevan, as the Chief Guest, and Mrs. Kannagi, State Women Commission Chairperson, presiding over the function. The second edition, celebrated on a grand scale at Kalaivanar Arangam on 2nd March 2019, featured Mr. C. Kamaraj IAS, MD of Aavin, as the Chief Guest, followed by an address by Mr. Raj Mohan, Channel Director of Put-Chutney, inspiring the audience.
